The most beautiful bedrooms in the UK

Whilst we might all be locked indoors for the time being, I thought I’d look back on some of my favourite places around the UK, which I’ll be heading back to as soon as I have the opportunity. I wanted to round up the most beautiful bedrooms I’ve stayed in, from whimsical four-posters, to cosy and romantic countryside boltholes - it is these bedrooms that have made the most memorable overnight stays. Read on to find out who made the cut and my tips on the best rooms to book…

Babington House

One of my absolute favourite countryside escapes in the UK, and where you can be guaranteed a good night’s sleep thanks to the ultra-comfortable super king-size beds. The entirety of the hotel has recently been renovated, but interiors still retain the perfect balance between old-school charm and contemporary style. Most bedrooms have a distinctly feminine colour palette; plush velvet accents and rolltop baths abound. I’ve stayed in a variety of bedrooms here: the smaller Attic bedrooms, spacious Coach House bedrooms in a separate building on the estate, and the grandest of all: the Main House bedrooms, which would have to be my favourite - rooms 2 and 5 are both beautiful.

I have stayed here before on a gifted press stay, but have also paid to stay here myself multiple times. All opinions are my own. I do not accept and write about gifted stays unless I truly enjoy them.

The Reading Rooms

This luxurious bed and breakfast in Margate has only two bedrooms, each spanning an entire floor. Expect French-style furniture, shabby-chic distressed wallpapers, and a generous home cooked breakfast spread brought to your bedroom every morning; natural light floods into the building thanks to the huge French-door windows. I loved staying in the ‘Attic’ bedroom here, which has a gorgeous, rustic design and a spacious bathroom with rolltop bathtub and huge walk-in shower.

No. 38 The Park

This boutique hotel in Cheltenham is housed in a beautiful Georgian townhouse. Bedrooms here feature bold pops of colour and tasteful interiors; the grandest room of all is number 1, which features a super king-size bed (with a TV that pops up at the end of the bed), velvet furnishings, and a minibar of artisan snacks. The pièce de résistance? The stunning bathroom that features a deep, mint-coloured freestanding bathtub, walk in shower with ‘him and her’ showerheads, and even a plush velvet loveseat.

Artist Residence, Oxfordshire

One of my favourite boutique hotels in the English countryside thanks to its homely and shabby-chic interiors. Oliver and I are huge fans of the Artist Residence, having stayed in their outposts in Penzance and Brighton as well, but this branch is our favourite of them all. We have stayed in the ‘Stable Suite’ and ‘Barn Suite’ here, which are both housed in the outbuildings, and are cosily private- these beautifully renovated barns feature rustic interiors, and upcycled furniture; expect deep bathtubs, sofa areas with wood-burning stoves, home baked cookies, and king-size beds: the Barn Suite features a stunning four-poster. Make sure to order breakfast in bed the next morning!

Beaverbrook

One of my favourite hotels in the UK, partly thanks to its stunning interiors; you’ll find beautifully designed bedrooms in the main house, each named after esteemed guests of Lord Beaverbrook. We stayed in the ‘Kipling’ bedroom, which much like the rest of the hotel, has a feminine colour scheme: expect sophisticated furnishings that evoke old-school glamour but still remain tasteful. The cherry on top? You’ll find your complimentary mini-bar stocked up with new snacks every day.

Foxhill Manor

My favourite hotel in the Cotswolds thanks to its intimate size, beautiful interiors, and gourmet experience - there are eight bedrooms, each named after a different type of tree; we stayed in ‘Chestnut’, which is a huge bedroom with a modern four-poster, sofa area and even its own dining room table - the room has a pale light-green colour scheme. The bathroom here features a freestanding bath and huge walk-in shower.

Heckfield Place

One of Oliver and my favourite hotels in the UK, thanks to its unparalleled service, stunning design, and the incredible food. Bedrooms in the main house are the most lavish, with the ‘Long Room’ (the grandest of all) costing a small fortune to stay in (£10,000 a night). We have previously stayed in the more affordable ‘Friends’ and ‘Guest’ bedrooms, which have a more contemporary design; however, if you’re looking to splash out, I’d recommend booking one of their Signature Suites, such as the ‘Ochre Suite’, which has a stunning marble-floor bathroom, sweeping views over the estate, and incredible details.
